Last weekend (12-14 July), Aussie reggae outfit Bootleg Rascal played a festival called Bender On The Grass on the Gold Coast, performing alongside Kenderick, Sticki Fingas, Chutney, and Zachary Leo.
Upon going on sale, the band’s curated festival sold out within three minutes. Bootleg Rascal have since shared a hilarious 17-minute festival recap, which we’re sharing exclusively on The Music today.
In a statement, vocalist and festival co-producer Carlos Lara quipped, “Oh yeah, that was easy. I've got no idea what all these pricks are on about saying it’s hard to run a music festival.”
Adding in a tongue-in-cheek fashion, Lara said, “If anyone in the music industry needs some advice, feel free to reach out, and we'll sit down and teach you the secrets to success via a one-on-one consultation, starting at the very low price of $302.50.”
You can watch the recap of the Bender On The Grass festival below.
The festival recap drops on the same day as Bootleg Rascal’s new single, Oti, featuring Dante Knows.

Guitarist Jimmy Young said about the single, “Oti kind of evolved into an ode to my son, Otis River Young. It touches on the father-son connection we share and the infinite love I have for him. As a parent watching your little creation grow and develop is a pretty surreal experience and, in my case, has led to a lot of self-reflection and realisation, which the song delves into as well.”
Young added, “The music itself I think really channels the vibe of early Bootleg Rascal, particularly the song Overflow from our [2014] debut EP Psychotica, with that classic Australiana reggae indie-rock feel, and a touch of dub. We were also super stoked to have our good friend Danté Knows feature on it as well. His verse really was the icing on the cake the song needed.”
Bootleg Rascal are heading on their Oti national tour later this year – tickets go on sale at 5 pm AEST today via their website. You can find all the tour dates and venues below.
