The Pointer SistersThe Pointer Sisters' Bonnie Pointer has passed away, age 69.
Pointer was a founding member of the group alongside her sisters June and Anita, who would later be joined by sister Ruth, and was also a respected solo artist after leaving the group in 1977.
In a statement issued to Variety, a representative of the group confirmed that Pointer's cause of death was cardiac arrest.
“It is with great sadness that I have to announce to the fans of the Pointer Sisters that my sister Bonnie died this morning,” said Anita Pointer in a statement.
"Our family is devastated. On behalf of my siblings and I and the entire Pointer family, we ask for your prayers at this time.”
“Bonnie was my best friend and we talked every day. We never had a fight in our life. I already miss her and I will see her again one day.”
Pointer was best-known for her disco classic Heaven Must Have Sent You, which she released in 1978.
Pointer was nominated a Grammy for Best Country Song in 1974 alongside Anita for their track Fairytale, while The Pointer Sisters took out the Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group for the track. The track would later be covered by Elvis Presley.
Bonnie and Anita released a song earlier this year as a tribute to June who passed away in 2006, called Feels Like June.
