"These kinds of things can only ever happen once.”
Bon Iver performed an exclusive four-night run at Sydney Opera House in 2016 as part of Vivid LIVE. The performances, titled CERCLE, are considered "some of the most radiant moments in the festival's 11-year history" and footage of the concert broke records on the venue's digital channels.
Today, theMusic.com.au is privileged to bring you never-before-seen (well unless you were there) footage of Justin Vernon performing Beth/Rest alongside saxophonist Michael Lewis as part of the series.
It's hauntingly beautiful and has us reminiscing about the gig which we described as "something special".
“We were lucky," Vernon shared of the experience. "We were given an opportunity, a unique chance, to excel at a high level with our music at the most special building in the world. With that chance, we got the highest level of support, acknowledgement, and runway from Ben [Marshall] and the Opera House to do something that was truly special & memorable. These kinds of things can only ever happen once.”
The Opera House is celebrating the release of the footage and Bon Iver's most recent album i,i with a competition where you could go in the running to win all four Bon Iver records on vinyl.

The Music gave i,i four-and-a-half stars out of five saying not only has Vernon "charted new territory as Bon Iver... as his cult following would attest, he has mastered it".
