Promoters Outraged As Bon Iver Tickets Hit Resale Websites For Over Triple Cost Price

Promoters of Dark Mofo and Mona Foma have taken aim at scalpers after revealing that tickets to Bon Iver's 2020 Australian shows are appearing on resale websites for over triple the cost price.

While tickets to the June performances are selling for $99, The Music can confirm some tickets to the shows are selling on websites like Viagogo for over $350. 

"If you purchase tickets from a third party like Viagogo, Gumtree or eBay, we cannot guarantee that they will be valid," Dark Mofo Creative Director, Leigh Carmichael, said.

"Your best bet to get tickets to a sold out show is to join the waitlist on our website, which is powered by our official ticket resale platform for those who are no longer able to attend.

“We want to protect our audience from paying inflated prices for their tickets; having their tickets cancelled and subsequently being denied entry to the event; or falling prey to a fraudster and not receiving the tickets at all."

Mona Foma curator Brian Ritchie has also urged punters to take caution when purchasing tickets online. 

“Buyer beware. The entertainment industry has always been full of slippery creatures exploiting artists, and now ticket on-sellers are manipulating the Wild Western frontier known as the internet to fleece the public," Ritchie said.

“As both an organiser and a musician, I want ticket holders to have legitimate access to our festival and events at the appropriate price. First to actually get into the venue, and second to have enough spare change to buy something to eat or drink.

"This will not happen when dealing with scalpers and fraudulent operators.

“The sooner event organisers, artists and the public join forces and use accurate information to put a stop to this spurious activity, the sooner we’ll all be having a fun and safe time together.”

The news comes only a week after punters attempting to enter Elton John's Adelaide show were turned away due to fraudulent tickets. 

“We’ve just got to keep fighting,” Chugg told The Music last week.

“It’s fucking terrible and people are getting caught up in this shit."
