Blood Sweat and Beers returns bigger and better to the Annandale Hotel Sydney January 30th for a day of rocknroll in all its varieties. Featuring two stages indoors, and an outdoor acoustic stage; the day provides the best in Rock, Folk, Punk, Ska, and everything a good boutique festival should have; with the added bonus of zero pretense, zero fake tan, and zero short shorts.
First lineup announcement is headed up by the Melbourne whirlwind that is A Death in the Family. Fresh from their support slot with Rise Against the week before, A Death in the Family play a brand of Sonic rock and Melody, citing influences from Husker Du and Hot Water Music.
Sydney City Trash’s blend of old time folk, convict balladry and punk attitude has made them a favourite of the Sydney scene for years now. New album was released last month to a sold out Annandale Hotel, assuring that they haven’t lost their spark, nor the devotion of Sydney.
You couldn’t hold a festival of this nature without mentioning Casino Rumblers somewhere on the lineup. Their heavy handed pyschobilly stylings has made them a band that is too infectious to dislike, even for the most vocal of horns haters.
Newcastles favourite folk upstarts are Like…Alaska; with the very welcome return of Jen Buxton to the lineup, the band is at full strength; back at the Annandale, which has seemingly become their home away from home.
You can’t talk about bands of Canberra without uttering Los Capitanes; usually with a cruisy nod and smile. The boys from the ACT are keeping the Sublime spirit alive; all the while creating some of the most original reggae ska Australia has. After a brief break, they’re ready to get busy onstage once again.
Making sure that no nonsense melodic punk is represented, three piece band The Optionals are sure to excite. Since they rolled out in 2002, they’ve received great reviews whilst supporting some of the biggest bands from here and abroad.
Melbournes Gun Runners are coming along after we promised we’d play some Mid Youth Crisis in the Wok n Roll Restaurant. The five piece maybe easy to please, but they don’t disappoint their audience by any stretch. They’ll be showcasing their new album that is only just out.
Last but not least, perhaps Sydneys most underrated punk band Easy Company finalize the first announcement. Gibbons brothers dueling singing and urgent guitar will certainly lift the roof off the ‘Dale.
