Bloc Party Announce New Album ‘Anatomy Of A Brief Romance’

Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke previously described the forthcoming album as a "disco heartbreak" collection of songs.

British indie rockers Bloc Party are back tonight, announcing that their new album, Anatomy Of A Brief Romance, is arriving this September.

The news comes as the Helicopter outfit is set to open for Muse alongside The Temper Trap across the US in July and August, and to co-headline a run across the UK and Europe with Interpol. The album’s first single, Coming On Strong, is out now. Check it out below.

Described as an album “unlike any they have ever made before,” Anatomy Of A Brief Romance is a personal yet expansive effort. Produced by Trevor Horn (Grace Jones, Pet Shop Boys, Frankie Goes To Hollywood), the album tracks an intoxicating love affair from its flirty beginnings to the heartbreaking break-up.

Anatomy Of A Brief Romance is scheduled for release on Friday, 11 September, via the newly launched record label, cOnTAGIOUS LTD, and Mushroom Music. It’s available to pre-order/pre-save in limited-edition vinyl, CD, and digital formats here.

“Every lyric you’re hearing on this record was something that actually happened to me. I had to tell the story, from start to finish,” explained singer Kele Okereke. In a recent interview with NME, he described the forthcoming collection of songs as “disco heartbreak.”

Discussing the candid first single, Coming On Strong, Okereke added, “It’s that feeling of, I’ve had my eye on this person for a while, and then we’re finally in a situation where we can be something to each other. And that’s such a seductive feeling. You’re not seeing their problems, and they’re not seeing your problems. You’re just shaping up and getting ready for this ride.”

Anatomy Of A Brief Romance is the highly anticipated follow-up to the band’s 2022 album, Alpha Games, and their 2023 EP, High Life.

Bloc Party last visited Australia in August 2025, when they celebrated their 20th anniversary and played their seminal record, Silent Alarm, in its entirety.
