Resurgent Gold Coast garage-rockers Bleeding Knees Club have recently burst back into action after a spell away from the limelight, playing shows around the traps and now signing with revered indie label Inertia Music.

The deal comes concurrent with the unveiling of Chew The Gum, their first single in three years, which made its debut on triple j last night. The track shares its name with the now-four-piece band's forthcoming EP, which is due for release next month on their new label.

Fans of BKC will know that frontman Alex Wall has been keeping busy during the band's apparent hiatus with his solo project Wax Witches, having released an impressive three albums in as many years on Los Angeles-based label Burger Records amid a few hectic international tours.

Basing himself between LA, New York and the Gold Coast, he's back in his old stomping ground — sans co-founder Jordan Malane — with new members Michael Barker (guitar), Gio Alexander (bass) and Nick Leighton (drums), and is evidently ready to reignite the love affair with the help of their high-octane comeback track.

"Chew The Gum is one of the first songs I wrote after returning to Australia, and it instantly felt like Bleeding Knees Club," Wall said in a statement. "It's about overdoing things that are fun, to the point that it's not fun at all any more. Chewing the gum till there's no flavour left, and it just tastes gross."

The four-track Chew The Gum EP will be released on Friday 14 April via Inertia Music, which label founder and head of A&R, Justin Cosby, is evidently excited about.

"Alex has come full circle with what he’s written and recorded here on Chew The Gum," Cosby said. "We can’t wait for you to hear this, and what he’s still holding in the bag for later."

Chew The Gum, the single — and the EP — was produced by old mate and longtime fan John Patterson, of The Grates.

"Since the first Bleeding Knees Club release, I could tell Alex was someone who was willing to wear his heart on his sleeve and had songwriting in his blood," he said in a statement. "Dude can't write a bad song!"
