Big Games Night Out, one of the main events of Melbourne International Games Week, announced its program today (September 5).

Heading the line-up is the global premiere of Blaktasia: Invasion of The Murk, Australia’s first Aboriginal-led mobile game. The debut game from Naarm-based studio GUCK, slated for release in early 2025, is a free, accessible, and educational mobile game adventure about restoring the bush. Users can experience native animal encounters in a First Nations fantasy world informed by Country.

The launch of Blaktasia at Big Games Night Out will include large-scale interactive projections of the game on the facade of Federation Square, providing an exclusive look into the magical world, characters, and incredible story of the “Blaktasia Universe”.

The rest of the program is stacked, with D&D campaigns, free-to-play game zones, Just Dance-offs, and a cosplay runway show.

Set on the Main Stage of Fed Square, the annual Big Games Night Out Cosplay Runway - open to anyone who registers, regardless of skill level - will include celebrity hosts, a range of prizes, and live music.

Viral sensation Crossy Road will also be celebrating its 10th birthday at the event, with some unique experiences centred around the game, thanks to Melbourne-based developer Hipster Whale.

This epic night of activity celebrates Victoria’s reputation as Australia’s games heartland.”

Director and CEO of the Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation, Katrina Sedgwick, also heralded Big Games Night Out, saying, “Fed Square has cemented itself as home to the greatest night out in Australian games – bringing together seasoned and budding players, with families and friends enjoying an evening in the city. This year’s event is the biggest yet and will be history-making with the anticipated global premiere of Blaktasia. Mark your diaries – this will be a night not to be missed.”
