Big Day Out organisers comment on Blur cancellation

Brit-pop legends Blur made the rather unexpected announcement this morning that they were pulling out of their Australian tour as part of Big Day Out in January, and the festival's CEO Adam Zammit has taken to twitter to address distressed fans of the festivals plans.

Brit-pop legends Blur made the rather unexpected announcement this morning that they were pulling out of their Australian tour as part of Big Day Out in January, and the festival's CEO Adam Zammit has taken to twitter to address distressed fans of the festivals plans.


Zammit tweeted that BDO will "announce [a] replacement very soon," and that they would release their own statement regarding the cancellation "very shortly." He also stated that the festival's organisers would "do the honourable thing" and offer refunds to any fans no longer wishing to attend in the band's absence, and assured fans that the "event is charging ahead despite Blurs action." Although an official statement has not yet been made, the promoter for the NZ show of the Big Day Out tour, Campbell Smith, has released a statement claiming that he had "no idea" about the cancellation, and to expect an official statement tomorrow. You can see his statement below.









"The Blur announcement a total surprise to me. I had no idea. As soon as I find out what happened and what will happen, I will advise.....I know no more yet about Blur situation. All international touring artists are booked by BDO Aus, so this whole thing taken me by surprise. Expect a full statement tomorrow."
