“We’re very keen to kick off the next chapter of an iconic Sydney venue."
The iconic Newtown live music venue occupying 42 King Street is returning to its roots, with Leadbelly rebranding as The Vanguard.
The Inner West institution shut its doors briefly back in 2016, reopening as Leadbelly a month later.
Once again operating as The Vanguard, the venue will combine “the laid-back, unpretentious luxury of the early years, the plucky spirit of Leadbelly, as well as the elegance and ambience that has been a hallmark of the space throughout".
It has also received another overhaul, with updates to its sound system, new furniture throughout, a refurbished green room, updates to the kitchen facilities, four new beer taps and more.
"I hope that the reopening and the upgrade of the facilities maximises the use of this iconic space for artistic expression," venue owner Arash Nabavi told The Music.
"Whether it be live music, theatre, burlesque or spoken word, I want artists to feel comfortable and confident in using the venue to connect with their audience."
