Candelo-born-and-bred singer-songwriter Heath Cullen has been revealed as the esteemed act set to open the stage for four-time Grammy Award-winning artist Joe Henry when he’s in the country for a national tour next month.
Having freshly wrapped up support duties for Aussie folk-rock vets The Waifs, Cullen’s star is on a considerable rise, despite his ongoing resistance to “leave the farm”, so to speak. He’s garnered comparisons to the likes of Eric Clapton and Nick Cave, with most recent release The Still And The Steep – featuring work from A-listers such as Jim Keltner, (John lennon, Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams) Marc Ribot (guitar; Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Robert Plant) and Larry Taylor (bass; Canned Heat) – doing much to bolster his profile as one of the country’s most talented country performers.

The Invisible Hour scribe’s east-coast tour of Australia kicks off at The Basement, in Sydney, on Tuesday, September 9, with a second Sydney show backing up in the same venue the following evening before Henry and Cullen move on to Melbourne, Meeniyan and finish up at the Brisbane Festival on September 14.
