BBC Reveals New Doctor Who Teaser

...and season eight's British/US airdate

The most important question of all when discussing Doctor Who (other than the one posed in the show's title) -- "When?" -- has been answered, with the BBC overnight unveiling the second teaser trailer for the forthcoming eighth season of the long-running sci-fi phenomenon and announcing it will hit British airwaves on August 23.

The broadcaster seems hellbent on not giving anything away as to the direction of the series, with the second teaser echoing the stormily lit 16-second first as far as it just being Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor just kinda standing there while the TARDIS falls to pieces around him.

However, this time around they've expanded the idea to include a brief, but telling, exchange between the Doctor and his companion, Clara (Jenna Coleman), that hints that Twelve will possibly have a dark streak, more in the vein of Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor and the War Doctor (John Hurt) than the so-cool-it-hurts Ten (David Tennant) or utterly adorable Eleven (Matt Smith).

The eighth season's premiere episode will be titled Deep Breath, and air in both Britain and the United States on August 23.

Australian airing details have not yet been confirmed, but -- with the Doctor Who world tour running from August 7-19 taking in a stop in Sydney, and ABC1 having announced an August broadcast -- we shouldn't be too far behind when the Twelfth Doctor finally comes to town.
