Bandcamp Have Waived Their Purchase Fees So You Should Buy A Tonne Of Aus Merch

We all know the score by now - coronavirus cancellations and closures have hamstrung the local music community. Things do not look great, but a lot of people are doing what little they can to help, and in dire times a little can go a long way. 

For one thing, Bandcamp are temporarily waiving their usual cut for purchases made through their site. For a full 24 hours, 100% of the dollars you drop there will land your fave band’s back pocket, so if you have a little something to spare and were thinking of grabbing a shirt or some vinyl or just a digital release to show your support, today until 5pm AEST is the day.

We’re not going to tell you how to spend your money, and we’re sure you’ve got your own ideas about who’s slinging the best gear, but here’s an in-no-way-exhaustive list of some very good options just to get the ball rolling.

Girlatones new album dropped today. It’s called Horn If You’re Honky and the cover is a cartoon roo wearing speed-dealers and driving a red muscle car. So you could listen to it or you could just hang it on the wall and let it bring some joy into your life.

Did you know the composer for breakout indie game Hollow Knight is from SA? Well, he is, and Bandcamp’s got his OST on vinyl. It got a wonderful, wistful high fantasy vibe that’s great for staring out the window for a little bit - and the boss battle tracks add some real drama to making a cup of tea.

Times are heavy, sometimes you want a soundtrack and wardrobe that reflects that. Dyssidia’s new record is so effective at melting faces even the deer on the cover has a flayed, smoking skull for a head. Dread Bambi takes pride of place on their Ts too, so that’s that covered.

Big fan of the wobbly ink stroke font. It's almost calming to look at. While you're putting your order in for the T you should pick up a copy of Amber Fresh aka Rabbit Island's vinyl re-release of Songs For Kids as well. They're intimate kitchen table recordings that are 'for children' the same way Aesop's Fables are.
