Save us, Avengers!

It's already broken box office records around the world, but it seems at least locally Avengers: Endgame did the most damage to Hoyts' website.

So high was the demand for tickets on Wednesday, the cinema chain reported just after 2pm that its website was "experiencing slower load times". However as the day went on, many punters jumped online to advise Hoyts that the website was not loading at all.

On Thursday, Hoyts advised punters the issues could be avoided by "using Google Chrome online and waiting for a while".

Some were still complaining as early as this morning that they were having difficulties purchasing tickets, however all issues now appear to be rectified.

It comes after Variety reported Endgame has cleared $US169 million globally at the box office already and is expected to surpass $800 million in its first weekend.

As news.com.au reports, Endgame has clinched the Australian record for highest opening day after raking in over $10 million, surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens which previously held the record with $9.45 million.
