Another season of Australian Idol has come to an end, with the winner being crowned as up-and-coming country star Dylan Wright.
Wright won over Amy Reeves and fellow country artist Denvah Baker-Moller, taking home $100,000 in prize money and a recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment Australia. For his final performance, he busted out a rousing performance of Elton John’s Tiny Dancer.
After his name was called out, Wright expressed pure elation. “Oh thank you. I’m about to cry,” he said (as per Refinery 29). “Thank you! I'm so honoured and humbled by this whole experience.”
Wright’s appearance in season nine of Australian Idol was confirmed alongside Denvah’s last November. He auditioned with a cover of Better Be Home Soon by Crowded House, which he dedicated to his late mother.
“I auditioned for Australian Idol because I grew up loving the show,” he said at the time. It never felt like the right time, but all of a sudden, the stars have aligned. I hope to be one of the most successful Australian Idol contestants and to make my family proud. My dream is to write and perform music full time.”
Wright made his musical debut in 2014 with the EP The Long Way Home, followed in 2021 with another EP titled Times Like These.
