“Arts and culture continue to be significant in the lives of all Australians.”

Despite certain parts of the country being in lockdown and social distancing in effect, Australian audience members have begun venturing out to events again.

A new report from Patternmakers shows that “one in four audience members have returned to cultural events as confidence grows”.

24% of those surveyed for the study said they had attended a museum, gallery, cinema or cultural event in the past fortnight.

The survey also found that 42% of people are planning to attend an event in the future, while 10% have tickets to an upcoming live show or performance between July 2020 into 2021.

“Arts and culture continue to be significant in the lives of all Australians,” Australia Council CEO Adrian Collette AM said.

“These trends are encouraging and highlight the importance of supporting the cultural sector to survive and thrive, so we can all reap the significant benefits to our wellbeing and our recovery.”
