Meet CATRAT, Australia's newest tribute act to Ratcat.
The band comprises punk/folk singer-songwriter Lincoln Le Fevre (solo legend / Lincoln Le Fevre & The Outsiders), Tim Steward of Screamfeeder fame, and Something For Kate drummer Clint Hyndman.
"Born out of a persistent and self-punishing desire to play pop songs extremely loudly, three dudes who should really know better hatched a plan to do get together and make a bit of a racket," the group's press release reads.
All these local legends of indie rock "love a decent pop tune, so late one night, they decided to do something about it – and CATRAT was born. Less of a 'tribute act' faithfully reproducing the original songs, CATRAT will put their own spin on the catchiest RATCAT songs, bringing their combined 8,500 years of service to indie rock to the table. Don’t expect note-perfect renditions. Do expect fun, high volume, high fives, and massively catchy pop hooks galore."
The trio will perform three dates in Victoria to bring in the new year.
Catch CATRAT at The Tote on Friday, 30 December, at Brunswick Ballroom on New Year's Eve, and at Soundbar, Rosebud, on New Year's Day. All three gigs will feature special guests - Big League will open proceedings at The Tote, while Hot Tubs Time Machine will warm up Brunswick Ballroom's family-friendly gig, and Sledgehammer Honey will appear at Soundbar. The Aussie rock legends promoted their 2020 release, The Modern Medieval, for the first time ever, as well as commemorated 20 years since the release of their seminal LP Echolalia.
‘We’ve been unable to tour The Modern Medieval since its release last year, and along with Echolalia turning 20 this year, we wanted to find a way to celebrate both albums, so we decided to play two sets a night. We’ll be our own support band!" Something For Kate said upon announcing the tour.
"One set will feature Echolalia in full, and the other set will be made up of songs from The Modern Medieval plus a mix of other favourites. This will be a rare and unique Something For Kate tour. We can’t wait for these very special shows."
