Aussie Hip Hop Hero Briggs Joins Barunga Festival Line-Up

12 May 2015 | 11:07 am | Staff Writer

The Shepparton-bred rapper joins the indigenous festival's 30th anniversary celebrations

In-form local rapper Briggs will join the likes of Paul Kelly, Gurrumul, Sammy Butcher and more for this year's 30th-anniversary celebrations at the annual Barunga Festival this Queen's Birthday long weekend.

Briggs — who has spent much of the past 12 months moving from strength to strength in the wake of his acclaimed album Sheplife, netting the National Indigenous Music Award for Best New Talent and collaborating with Gurrumul on emotive cut The Hunt — is a fitting cherry on top of the many-layered cake that is Barunga Festival, which hits the Northern Territory town of the same name from 5-7 June this year.

Last year's event attracted about 3000 punters to the northern township for not just music but thriving cultural activities, an opportunity to experience the traditions and customs of historic and contemporary Indigenous life through sport, art, dance, circus, workshops, culinary delights, and more.
