Folk duo The April Maze have today cancelled their UK summer tour after member Sivan Agam underwent emergency surgery.
The Melbourne-founded band were due to fly out of Australia today, however they revealed in a statement that the British singer and cellist was recently admitted to hospital for 36 hours after suffering abdominal pain.
"The doctors have been very strict with their instructions - no travel, no heavy lifting, no touring and NO cello playing for at least 6 weeks..." the band said.
Agam and fellow band member and husband Todd Mayhew went on to express their sadness in having to cancel the entire trip.
"Months and months of work goes into organising our tours... especially overseas tours... we don't mind the hard work because it usually pays off and we get to go on a big adventure, see family and old friends and play amazing shows to gorgeous audiences on warm summer nights."
"Even though we are full time musicians we are still fully independent so as you can imagine it is big blow to not be able to go on tour as planned. To make it more difficult, as indie muso's, there is no sick pay."
The band hinted that they hope to work on new material during the time off — their latest album, Sleeping Storm was released in February.
