The Kiwi-Australian actor had been scheduled to appear at a 'Villains Of Arrow' panel in Texas

Australian-New Zealand actor Manu Bennett — best-known for his roles as Azog in The Hobbit, Crixus in Spartacus and Slade Wilson/Deathstroke in Arrow — has reportedly been arrested in San Antonio, Texas, for an alleged misdemeanor assault while in town for the city's Alamo City Comic Con event.

As local outlet KENS5 first reported, the 45-year-old actor was charged with assault causing bodily injury following an apparent altercation early on Sunday (US time) at the downtown Grand Hyatt hotel. Police had reportedly been made aware of the incident as a result of a call to San Antonio Police describing an "assault in progress".

According to fellow San Antonio media MySA, Bennett was held by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office on a $US1600 (about $2235) bond, before being released within the day. Early details released by SAPD claim that Bennett "punched a 29-year-old-man in the face" at a party at the Grand Hyatt, about 4.30am.

As CBR reports, Alamo City Comic Con apparently cancelled a planned 'Villains of Arrow' panel at which Bennett was to appear in the wake of his arrest.

Bennett's portrayal of the brutal, hyper-intelligent mercenary Deathstroke on Arrow made him a swift favourite with the show's fans; however, he expressed to The Music disappointment with the trajectory the character had taken as the role transitioned from supporting protagonist to primary antagonist to easily dealt-with once-a-season threat.
