Sydney Crowbar’s Sounds Good first heat of its band series kicks off on 13 July, with another three heats to follow before the Finals take place on 31 August. Applications to show what your band is made of close later today (30 June).
The Sounds Good series is, quite simply, a band competition created to help your band get to the next level with direct industry advice and tools.
The four heat showcases will see bands perform for industry greats, with the finalists playing for the grand prize pool put together with Merch Fan, Mountain Goat, Select Music, Stage Door Productions, The Pet Food Factory and Crowbar.
As for what the grand prize pool entails? The winning band will receive rehearsal time at Stage Door Productions, the opportunity to record, mix and master a song with the one and only Jay Whalley at the Pet Food Factory, and a Select Music tour strategy session with the company’s Senior Booking Agent, Casey O’Shaughnessy.
From there, the winning band will also take home $1000 in credit to spend with Merch Fan, score a rider for six months, courtesy of Mountain Goat, and headline a show at Crowbar, where all-time greats like Cosmic Psychos, Tired Lion, King Parrot and many more have performed.
Artist entry is free, with bands having the chance to sell tickets and make money. Judging will be focused on songwriting and structure, musicianship, stage presence and the band’s ability to draw a crowd.
