"Gucci gang, Gucci gang, Gucci gang, Gucci gang"

More Amyl & The Sniffers More Amyl & The Sniffers

Fashion and music have always had a symbiotic relationship; from grunge to grime, to David Bowie's iconic Aladdin Sane and Ziggy Stardust personas. Now Amyl & The Sniffers have joined the likes of Harry Styles and featured in a Gucci campaign, and subsequently, there's a huge mural of the band in London right now.

Shot by director/photographer Glen Luchford, the pre-fall 2019 campaign brought an eclectic group, including Amyl & The Sniffers, to Sicily with Gucci's creative director, Alessandro Michele, staging "a modern-day version of a symposium".

According to the blurb, "The characters are drawn from the counter-cultural groups typically seen on Venice Beach in California—hardcore punks, rollerbladers, bodybuilders and surfers".

The campaign dropped in April, with the mural popping up earlier this month in Shoreditch. Currently on tour in Europe, lead singer Amy Taylor shared a snap standing in front of the mural this week.

"It's weird, ay," Taylor said speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald. "They just called us up. [Michele’s] people called our people and then… I dunno. I really don't. It was a great time but… I'm so far from fashion world. I'm a Big W girl."

Check out the campaign above and seek out the mural if you're in London; it's around the corner from Rough Trade Records on the Truman Brewery in Shoreditch.

Amyl & The Sniffers released their debut, self-titled album last week. Earning four stars out of five from The Music, we wrote it was a prime example of "primitive, raw and febrile rock’n’roll". Check out the full review here.
