New Zealand trio Alien Weaponry are returning to Australia for the first time since March 2019 this November, joining the already stacked Froth & Fury Festival taking place in Adelaide for an exclusive performance.
Their first gig down under since the Tumatauenga Tour follows the trio’s recent stint in the UK and Europe opening for the mighty Gojira.
Channeling Brazilian metal gods Sepultura's embracing of their culture, the New Zealand outfit celebrates their Indigenous heritage to the extent that the band often sings in te reo Māori.
Since releasing their acclaimed debut album Tū via Napalm Records in 2018, the band’s kinetic presence and unique sound – combining thrash metal with lyrics in te reo Māori — has attracted masses of fans and media acclaim across the globe that have responded to the sheer brutality, untempered passion, and unbelievable noise created by the three-piece.
In 2021, they unveiled the album Tangaroa. Lewis de Jong (vocals, guitar), bassist Tūranga Morgan-Edmonds, and Henry de Jong (drums) aim to place Indigenous voices front and centre, with equal appreciation for personal influences and cultural awareness.
Froth & Fury is held at Pirate Life Brewing on 18 Baker Street, Port Adelaide. Australia’s premier event for heavy and alternative music lovers, this year’s line-up is headlined by Suicidal Tendencies (who will soon reveal additional Australian dates) and The Butterfly Effect, hitting the stage after “a bit of hibernation,” according to their social media.
