“I wanted to write a love story that doesn’t have an end, that you can choose what happens to them."
Singer-songwriter and storyteller Alex The Astronaut has today released a heart-wrenching new single, Airport, alongside an intimate peek behind the curtain during a special international journey.
Airport acts as her first single for the year, forming a sequel of sorts to her previous release, Growing Up.
The single acts as a cinematic portrait of the forced separation of quarantine, its emotional fallout and its romantic qualities.
“I was seeing that separation all around and experiencing it myself, and I wanted to write about what happens when you meet up with someone you care about after such a long time, and all the pressure that comes with that,” she said.
Accompanying the track is a poignant video, featuring footage shot by the artist on a journey from Sydney to New York. Alex The Astronaut started her music career while in New York on a soccer scholarship at Long Island University, where she studied Maths and Physics.
She describes the track's structure and sentiment as a love story without an ending, stating: “I wanted to write a love story that doesn’t have an end, that you can choose what happens to them. Pick your own adventure.”
