This week’s The Music cover artist Alex Lahey has announced her The Answer Is Always Yes Australian tour, in support of her new album of the same name.

This August, fans can celebrate Lahey’s music – new and older – with special guests Illuminati Hotties coming all the way from the US to open all shows besides the Queensland gigs.

The Answer Is Always Yes tour will begin on Friday, 4 August, at Miami Marketta on the Gold Coast before heading to The Brightside in Brisbane the following night.

The following Friday, Lahey and Illuminati Hotties will hit Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory and Perth’s Rosemount Hotel the night after.

From there, the tour wraps up on 18, 19, and 20 August at Sydney’s Crowbar, Melbourne’s Night Cat, and the Sooki Lounge in Belgrave. Tickets are on sale now via Alex Lahey’s website.

Alex Lahey’s third album, The Answer Is Always Yes, is out this Friday, 19 May. She starts her US tour on the album’s release date, which ends in mid-June.

“Living in a world that wasn’t made for you makes you pretty strong and adaptive, and you find the fun in it,” Lahey said about The Answer Is Always Yes.

She added, “It also makes you realise how absurd everything is. With The Answer Is Always Yes, I wanted to get weird because the world is weird and it’s even weirder when you realise you don’t fit into it all the time.”

This is the core concept that defines Lahey’s third album and first release since her pandemic-inspired 2020 EP, Between The Kitchen And The Living Room.

The Answer Is Always Yes is packed with Lahey’s real-life experiences, observations and stories, soundtracked by journeys through post-punk, pop and indie-rock music. These are songs about identity and relationships and a feeling of not belonging – universal emotions no matter what’s happening in the music itself.
