We feel better already

More Alanis Morissette More Alanis Morissette

Twenty years after irreparably muddling the definition of 'irony' for an entire generation of listeners, Alanis Morissette is broadening her horizons by launching her own self-help podcast, titled Conversation With Alanis.

The mind behind the acclaimed Jagged Little Pill (and… other things) unveiled her intentions via social media, replete (as Stereogum notes) with inspirational quote and " — Alanis Morissette" tagline:

"The more knowledge we have around where our blind spots are, where our wounds are, the more we can empathize with our partners'. Not incidentally, our partner's sacred complaints and requests indicate and trigger these wounds and blind spots. This is the gift of relationship, albeit at times difficult to endure."

Brushing aside the fact that this is relationship advice from a woman who dated Ryan Reynolds for five years and then let him escape to the wind forever, Morissette appears to be making a red-hot go of the earnest talking-head thing, already releasing her first episode, in which she speaks to New York Times best-selling author and marriage & family therapist Katherine Woodward Thomas "about 'conscious uncoupling' and the subtleties of dating and relationships".

To be totally fair to Alanis, the wider podcast actually seems like it will at least attempt to touch on some broader ground. As its iTunes description notes, the series will hold "conversations with different individuals from different schools and walks of life discussing everything from psychology to art to spirituality to design to health and well-being, to relationships (whether they be romantic or colleagueship or parent with children relationships)".

On the other hand, its ambition might exceed its reach just a little:

"Alanis will dive into science, neurobiology, music, travel, social commentary, maybe a tiny bit of political, and feminism (what Alanis likes to call 'the Feminine Movement in both Males and Females Alike') the conversations will touch on topics that move the guest and Alanis herself toward philosophizing in real time, as well as illuminate any teachings, ideas and models already established."
