AKOSIA Releases New Single, 'Help Me' + Announces Debut EP

“This body of work is about embracing every facet that is me. It is about the duality that is ever present and floats underneath my skin.”

Ghanian-bourn Naarm/Melbourne based artist AKOSIA has today released her transcendent new single, Help Me. Alongside the good news she's also announced that her long-awaited debut EP BLACK DIAMOND will release on the 18th of November this year.

AKOSIA has become renowned for her ability to utilise her voice in a compelling and honest way, reflecting on emotion and the trials and tribulations of life beneath a distinctly beautiful sonic palette. Help Me continues this ethos. Produced by Willie Tafa the track reflects on loss and acts as a personal outcry for help from the artist.

On the track AKOSIA stated, "‘Help Me’ is a song I wrote to process the death of my father. It was such a traumatic time and I needed a place for all of the pain to go so I wrapped it up tightly in this song.” She continues, “Sometimes when I write, I have a way of tapping into the divine to give me the encouraging words I need to hear.”

Beneath her vocals sits a lush soundscape, defined by curious melodic textures, an R&B beat and lucious vocal pads. The song also lands with an official visualiser and lyrics video created by long-term collaborator Dale Crawford.

BLACK DIAMONis slated to be a raw exploration of the human experience with each track on the 7 track debut acting as a candid and captivating reflection of the last two years.

“This body of work is about embracing every facet that is me. It is about the duality that is ever present and floats underneath my skin.” AKOSIA shares. “It is about spirituality, sensuality and sorrow. It is about coming into myself without any fear artistically and also in my personal life. I view my growth like a double helix, the lessons are the same, they just get more complex over time, and if we step back we can see the Black Diamond that is there, shimmering within us.”
