Aerosmith ProfileAmerican rockers Aerosmith have announced a pair of special reunion concerts, taking over the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles with plenty of “friends” on the line-up.
Titled “California, Dream On: Aerosmith & Friends,” the Livin’ on the Edge hitmakers will perform at the Hollywood Bowl on Thursday, 29 October, and Sunday, 1 November, where they’ll be accompanied by a string of impressive performers on both nights.
The “Friends” on the line-up include The Black Crowes, Run-D.M.C., Heart, Billy Idol, Eric Church, Sammy Hagar, Tom Morello, and more.
Additionally, members of Red Hot Chili Peppers (Chad Smith), Guns N’ Roses (Duff McKagan and Slash), Alice in Chains (Jerry Cantrell), Extreme (Nuno Bettencourt), and others are listed, perhaps suggesting a couple of supergroup performances across both evenings. Plus, “surprise announcements” are yet to come.
Tickets will be available from this Saturday, 10 October. You can find them on the Aerosmith and Friends website.
Aerosmith last played shows together in 2023 and cancelled their 2024 tour dates, which were previously rescheduled, after singer Steven Tyler sustained a significant vocal injury a few dates into their farewell tour. The band retired from touring in August 2024, effective immediately.
Since the band ended their touring career, Tyler has performed at a handful of benefit shows and award ceremonies. Last July, he appeared at the Back to the Beginning concert, celebrating the legacy of Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne, and sounded great – he was one of the highlights of the day.
Consequence of Sound notes that a new press photo shows the classic line-up back together for the first time in over six years, with drummer Joey Kramer reuniting with his bandmates after health issues and legal disputes.
Formed in 1970, Aerosmith were previously described as “America’s greatest rock and roll band” and “The Bad Boys from Boston” by music and mainstream media, while the partnership of Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry was recognised as the “Toxic Twins.”
After releasing hits like Dream On and Sweet Emotion in the ‘70s, the band hit a rough patch for a few years before embarking on a Comeback Tour in 1984 and 1985. In 1986, their popularity surged again after they reworked their ‘70s song Walk This Way with Run-DMC. Their 1987 album, Permanent Vacation, also signalled their return to the spotlight.
Their biggest hits of the ‘80s and ‘90s included Love in an Elevator, Janie’s Got a Gun, Dude (Looks Like a Lady), Livin’ on the Edge, and I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing, which featured on the Armageddon soundtrack.
