Paul Kelly ProfileThe festival state is set to come alive yet again next March, with Adelaide Festival unveiling a mammoth 2019 program.
Next year’s festival will feature 70 events, including 17 Australian premiere and 10 world premieres, with contemporary and classical music, opera, dance, film, forums and visual arts all featured from March 1 – 17.
Aussie legend Paul Kelly will team up with Adelaide locals Seraphim Trio alongside James Ledger and Alice Keath for Thirteen Ways To Look At Birds, while the contemporary music program features Dinosaur Jr legend J Mascis, local singer-songwriter Sarah Blasko, indie rock maestros Augie March and buzzing surf rock favourites Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever.
Also signing on are Emma Donovan and The Putbacks, who will perform a tribute to Ruby Hunter, and Irish cabaret star Camille O’Sullivan paying homage to Nick Cave, while Megan Washington, The Others (James Morrison, Paul Grabowsky and Kram), Hippo Campus, The Necks, They Might Be Giants and Rhye will also make an appearance.
“In 2019 we showcase the rich creative imaginations of the world’s greatest artists – some very special works of sublime playfulness and joy along with works that are borne of the human impulse to understand, analyse and interpret world affairs,” Artistic Directors Rachel Healy and Neil Armfield said.
“Classic stories reimagined for today’s audiences and new commissions that leap off the stage with energy and thrilling conviction.”
