ABC's The Sound Confirms Rotating Lineup Of Guest Hosts For Season 3

Former host Jane Gazzo is no longer a part of the series.

ABC TV music staple The Sound is set to kick off for another series this Sunday, with a noticeable change to its lineup.

The weekly series is now set to feature a rotating roster of guest hosts each episode, as they chat to artists from around the country and are treated to a series of special live performances for the program.

The first episode will see radio host and TV personality Andy Lee chat to musician and longtime friend Vance Joy, as well as performances from Vera Blue, Spacey Jane, King Stingray and more.

"Thrilled to be kicking off Season three of The Sound in memory of my great mate Michael Gudinski," Lee said of the gig. "They obviously heard I played trumpet in Year 12 at school, and thought we better get this musical genius to guest host."

Vera Blue (real name Celia Pavey) also shared her excitement, saying, "it’s not every day you get to watch and perform in the Sydney Harbour on a barge while the sun rises! I am beyond excited for everyone to see my performance of The Sound."

Pavey added, "what a wonderful way to showcase the beauty of our country and spend the morning with my band capturing what we love doing so much. What an honour. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!"

The change comes as former host Jane Gazzo came under fire for her apparent involvement in a number of online chat groups associated with anti-vaccination rhetoric and COVID-19 conspiracies. She was name-checked online by Melbourne musician Ally Spazzy, who was an active member of the groups.

Gazzo initially denied being a member of the chat forums before pivoting her response, saying at the time, “The journalist in me also drove me to find out what the other side were doing. I quickly removed myself when I realised it was quite dangerous. I’m glad I turned away but others like Ally obviously did not. I deeply regret my involvement in it.”

The presenter has since gone on to delete and/or privatise all social media presences. While the timing of events is striking, neither ABC nor Gazzo have stated any correlation between them.

The Sound premieres its third season from 5.30pm this Sunday, 07 November on ABC TV.
