ABC Commission Full Season Of Ronny Chieng Sit-Com

International Student will premiere on the ABC and Comedy Central next June

Good news comedy lovers, Ronny Chieng: International Student is the first pilot from the ABC’s Comedy Showroom to be commissioned for a full season, which will air on the ABC and Comedy Central in the US next year.

According to TV Tonight, Chieng revealed the good news in a podcast interview with Irish-American comic Des Bishop, adding that the show is due to air next June. Chieng, who describes himself as “born in Malaysia, ethnically Chinese, grew-up in Singapore but spent ten years in Australia going to law school and doing comedy,” is using his complex heritage to explore an “international perspective” in the new show, on what it means to be Asian living overseas. The comic is already a familiar face to American audiences, as a correspondent on the popular political satire program The Daily Show.

Chieng saw off some formidable competition to be the first commissioned show of the Comedy Showcase, beating pilots by Aussie comedy heavyweights Eddie Perfect, The Chaser’s Julian Morrow, WA comedy team Mad Kids, Alison Bell, Kate McLennan and Lawrence Mooney.
