A Street Party Named Fitz is returning to Sydney on Sunday, February 9th for its sophomore year on Dowling Street and Reid Avenue in Woolloomooloo, boasting a day of family-friendly entertainment and lots of sweet, sweet live music.
A collaboration between Odd Culture Group and Old Fitzroy Hotel, the street party’s inaugural year in 2024 saw thousands of dollars successfully raised for the Old Fitz Theatre, with a turnout of hundreds of locals taking to the streets for a day in the sun. Headlining the event was soul, funk and pop outfit Murray Cook’s Soul Movers, featuring Murray Cook of The Wiggles. DJ Aunty Jonny took over the decks, while performers, burlesque, comedy, drag, and speeches kept The Old Fitzroy bustling.
For this year’s rendition, indie-rock band The Buoys will be headlining the live music lineup, with Murray Cook’s Soul Movers making a return, DJ Elliott Hammond of The Delta Riggs manning the ones and twos and Dope Lemon kicking festivities off from 12PM. As per last year, theatre and burlesque shows will also run throughout the day.
Kids can meet roving clown Mr Gorski during his afternoon performance, and free face painting will be available under the leafy shadiness bound to the streets of Woolloomooloo.
If you’re in the mood for something to satiate your hunger, The Old Fitzroy Hotel are enlisting its well-loved kitchen team to serve up cheeseburgers, duck croquettes, roast chicken, lamb and mushroom ragu rolls, ranging from $8 to $25. The heat of the day is bound to aggravate your thirst, so Odd Culture Group will be serving up Young Henry’s brews, Heaps Normal’s assortment of alcohol-free beverages, and Mapo Gelato will have their freshly-churned summer flavours on offer.
