When you have publicists and bands sending you hosts of press releases for tours, album/video announcements, advance review copies, your inbox can get pretty fucking cluttered at times. As such, a lot can fall through the digital cracks.
One such band that fell through the cracks a few weeks ago was the Adelaide metalcore crew, Vault Of Valor.
Now, with a band name like that and with the first minute or so of most recent single, 'My Sacrifice' (found below), I knew I was in for some old-school Parkway Drive and/or Feed Her To The Sharks worship. But that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. See, Vault Of Valor or VOV (not to be confused with Melbourne’s Void Of Vision, mind you) may utilise the similar guitar chugs and riffs, "that" metal vocal style and breakdowns of countless other heavy bands mean they are indeed one of many, but that doesn't mean they aren't a solid band. Because they are.
Actual music aside, these SA dudes also have a nifty music video for 'My Sacrifice' to boot. With the release of this film clip, the band said the following over social media:

“We had such a rad time making this clip and pushed through some wild Adelaide weather, which made for some great footage. We'd like to thank Ben from Third Eye Visuals for his outstanding work behind the camera and our good mates Daniel Baumer and Chris Smith for making their acting debuts in the clip. You guys did an outstanding job and also to Alexander Ramsay for such a great job with lighting, you sir, are a mad genius.”
Now, with all of that talent behind the lens, the song has become all the better for it. After some car trouble, the video's protagonist gets a dire phone call and begins a mad rush home to save his friend (or brother, it's not really made explicit what their relationship is) from the cold embrace of death, and he...well, I'm not spoiling shit! You can go watch the clip and find out for yourself.
The band’s new seven track EP, ‘Pathways’ came out back in July, so go give it a suss on their Bandcamp page and then go tell them whether you hate them or not.
