A$AP Rocky ProfileHarlem-bred hip-hop luminary A$AP Rocky, of renowned collective A$AP Mob, is well and truly back in action after something of a quiet spell recently, releasing the video for new track Multiply via YouTube early this morning (AEST).
The world-beating rapper wastes no time in reasserting himself, either, calling on Three 6 Mafia founder Juicy J to provide some guest vocals before Rocky comes in, mouth blazing, firing shots at the people and businesses he appears to feel are trying to get in the way of his ascent in the fashion world (yes, really — noted brands Been Trill and Hood By Air even get name-dropped, albeit because Rocky thinks they're not paying him his due as a street fashion originator, apparently).
There are lyrical references aplenty — to a Nelly song (Tip Drill), 2Pac Shakur, Big Boi and Andre 3000 (aka "Three Stacks"), departed mentor Pimp C, and the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), to name a few — to keep you listening, while musically the track hovers around a slightly discomforting, sinister aesthetic, replete with synth-dominated, gut-shakingly bassy bridge section for a spot of variety.
It's good stuff, but, even if it wasn't, it's not like it's every day you hear a very serious rapper offering very serious thoughts about the fashion world, so it's almost worth it for the lyrical context alone.
