A&J Stone To Debut At #1 As Sticky Fingers, One Day Lock Horns

6 August 2014 | 1:20 pm | Staff Writer

The battle for upper-echelon entry is well and truly on

More Sticky Fingers More Sticky Fingers

Renowned indie-folk sibling duo Angus & Julia Stone are on track to step out at the top of the charts with their eagerly awaited self-titled LP later this week.

However, incendiary local acts Sticky Fingers and One Day boast the most exciting debut scenario, with the two groups locking horns in a tight battle as they edge towards a top-five entry.

Their respective albums, Land Of Pleasure and Mainline, have both received copious amounts of praise from fans and critics, so it should come as no surprise that not only are they looking at landing very close to the top five bracket but also have to fend off one another. Such are the perils of being crazy-good at what you do.

Midweek charts — key points

  • Angus & Julia Stone favourites for #1 debut
  • Sticky Fingers and One Day in a close battle — should be close to top-five debuts
  • Anja Nissen (The Voice) looking at a top-twenty entry, between #10-#15
  • First Aid Kit push back into the top twenty
  • Meghan Trainor will challenge for top spot on the Singles Chart

The Voice star Anja Nissen is also set to make her chart debut this week, performing strong enough to warrant a top-ten or top-fifteen prediction, with the Guardians Of The Galaxy soundtrack, Awesome Mix Vol 1, Eric Clapton & FriendsThe Breeze – An Appreciation Of JJ Cale, and Spoon’s They Want My Soul rounding out the contingent of full-length first-timers for the week.

Meanwhile, previous chart entrants First Aid Kit are looking like they’ll push back into the top 20 with Stay Gold, while George Ezra (Wanted On Voyage), Russell Morris (Van Diemen’s Land) and Dan Sultan (Blackbird) all stand to make gains this week.

On the singles side of things, AJR’s I’m Ready, Katy Perry’s maligned This Is How We Do, and Lilly Wood & Robin Schulz’s Prayer In C will all make their chart entries this week.

In addition, Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass (which is in a prime place to make a challenge for #1), Sam Smith’s Stay With Me, Jessie J’s Bang Bang (featuring Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande), George Ezra’s Budapest, 5 Seconds Of Summer’s Amnesia, Klingande’s Jubel and Maroon 5’s Maps all set to make their way up the ladder by week’s end.
