4ZZZ Crowns #1 In Hot 100 Of 2023

While there’s still a few weeks to go until triple j unveils its Hottest 100 of 2023, for lovers of independent Australian music, Brisbane community radio station 4ZZZ has dropped its Hot 100 of last year, ringing in the new year with banger after banger.

While you may be more familiar with the famous triple j Hottest 100, 4ZZZ are the original founders and creators of the idea, and to this day, they carry on the tradition that started all the way back in 1976. Focused on elevating local communities and giving a platform to a wide array of artists, the Hot 100 is a treat that allows listeners to reflect on some of their favourite tunes from the year.  

In addition to the tunes playing live from noon on New Year’s Day, 4ZZZ invited listeners to Newstead for free hangs while the broadcast happened from The Triffid. From the devastatingly raw nature of I Used To Be Fun by Teen Jesus And The Jean Teasers to the outlier vibes of DEAFCULT, the community votes for 4ZZZ’s Hot 100 had it all.

The winners of the latest countdown, Square Tugs (with One Minute Love Song), have won the Hot 100 for the second year, with following winners including WAAX, Flangipanis, Goatzilla and Violent Soho. Coming in second for the 2023 Hot 100 was punk-nerd outfit Mitch, Please with Bricks, while fierce rockers Radium Dolls came in third with Tractor Parts.
