"A necessary narrative to explore in today’s music industry!”
The next instalment of 4ESydney’s online program is one week away, with the hip hop conference set to present a “robust, engaging and raw” panel on censorship.
Taking place next Wednesday, May 20, from 4pm via Vimeo, the When Artistic Expression And Censorship Collide panel will feature Randy Glazer (artist manager/Street Uni), L-FRESH The LION, Ricky Simandjuntak (Onefour manager) and Maxine Johns (author and journalist) and will be facilitated by MC Trey (hip hop activist, entrepreneur and youth worker).
“Last year, Onefour experienced a type of censorship never seen before in this country,” Simandjuntak said.
“It went beyond the cancelling of the shows towards something much more sinister. It revealed a culture of bullying and abuse of power by people whom have held leadership positions in our community.
“Censoring the group did the complete opposite of what the police hoped. It made Onefour the voice of a much-misunderstood community.”
Johns added: “This upcoming censorship conversation will lean considerably toward identity politics and in one I predicted to be robust, engaging, raw and ultimately a necessary narrative to explore in today’s music industry!”

Back in March, it was revealed that 4ESydney would change parts of its 2020 programming in light of the COVID outbreak, with select events from the conference postponed, while larger events would be live streamed.
