This year’s Screen Music Awards were held in Naarm/Melbourne tonight (November 9), with the biggest winners including Michael Yezerski, Benjamin Speed and Amanda Brown.
Yezerski won two awards at the ceremony, taking out the gongs for Best Television Theme and Best Music For Children’s Programming, both at the hand of his score for Netflix’s Ivy + Bean adaptation. Speed, on the other hand, won the lauded Feature Film Score Of The Year award for his work on The Portable Door, while Amanda Brown won Best Music For A Television Series Or Serial with her Deadloch score.
Other big winners included Cezary Skubiszewski (who won Best Music For A Documentary with his work on Flyways), Nigel Westlake (whose Blueback LP won Best Soundtrack Album), and the duo of Damien Lane and Jodi Phillis (who scored Best Original Song Composed For The Screen with Rollercoaster, which appeared in the ABC Me series Soundtrack To Our Teenage Zombie Apocalypse).
As for the two popularity awards – both honouring the Most Performed Screen Composer – Adam Gock and Dinesh Wicks took out the Australian title for their joint work on MasterChef, Anh’s Brush With Fame and Beauty And The Geek Australia, and Joff Bush won the Overseas title for his iconic theme work on Bluey.
