Enmore, Sydney, is about to get a vibrant addition to its live music and entertainment scene, with the news that a new venue, The Trocadero Room, is set to open in the very near future.
Helmed by Pasan Wijesena of Earl’s Juke Joint, his team from Jacoby’s Tiki Bar, and Russell Martin of The Cliff Dive the venue will also feature The Magpie — Enmore's smallest pub — which is scheduled to open at the end of November 2023.
Taking full advantage of Enmore Road's special entertainment precinct designation, this collaboration of seasoned hospitality professionals aims to revitalise the space once occupied by the Hi-Way Enmore, which shut down in March this year.
“We were inspired to open a venue that could cater for bands and DJs, as well as host comedy and other live entertainment,” Wijesena told Purple Sneakers.
“Enmore Road’s recent live entertainment precinct designation meant the regulatory framework around opening such a venue was more accommodating, and so we thought why not give it a go?”
He added, “The area has a rich history of music and arts advocacy so we wanted to be part of that rebirth which has been bubbling along now for a few years — And so the idea for the Trocadero Room was born.”

As for what guests can expect visually from The Trocadero Room, the inspiration for the harks back to the early 1940s when the original Trocadero on King Street was a thriving entertainment hub. The new venue hopes to pay homage to the historical venue, while also being an outlet for arts and entertainment in the Inner West.
“Stylistically, it’s a cross between the Lobby Bar at Hotel Chelsea and a West Hollywood rock n roll bar like Bar Lubitsch, with good sound and lighting,” Wijesena explained.
“I've always loved the vibe at venues where you can go see the band, but also hang out before they play and after they have finished. I love the idea of being an incubator venue for new artists, but also being professional enough to host smaller international acts or secret shows for bigger names.”
He continued, “We want to have late-night gigs that start at midnight, and I think loosely we will curate the venue booking policy towards indie/alternative and electronica/hip hop. We want it to be a fun place where you can come and dance whilst also getting great hospitality.”
“I feel like the bar for live venue drinks is quite low so picture this as a place you can get a great cocktail or glass of wine, but also just as easily be a party joint with local beers on tap and frozen negronis.”
But that's not all—the team plans to incorporate The Magpie at the front of the venue. Dubbed "Enmore's smallest pub," it promises to be a cosy retreat inspired by classic pubs and sports bars.
“We’ll play live sport when games are on plus feature classic games and iconic matches such as classic NBA or footy finals, and heartbreaking English losses in all sports,” Wijesena added.
The atmosphere will be complemented by a soundtrack of classic rock and indie alternative music, making it a perfect spot for a casual day out with beer and a ploughman's plate or sipping chilled Lambrusco and contemporary updates to traditional pub cocktails.
The Trocadero Room will open in late October with The Magpie set to swoop in at the end of November 2023.
