One Of One will soon host a live conversation called No More Open Secrets, a discussion covering sexual harm, safety, and support for women and gender-diverse people in the Australian music industry.
For the discussion, One Of One will be joined by Dr. Ash King (Support Act) and Bree Baker.
Dr. Ash King is a psychologist, creative and the Mental Health Content & Programs Lead at Support Act.
With experience developing training, education, and resources that support the mental health and wellbeing of people in Australia’s music and creative industries, she blends clinical expertise with lived experience in the arts.
King’s programs are practical and engaging, and help creatives navigate pressure, prevent harm, and foster healthier cultures.
Meanwhile, Bree Baker has worked in the mental health sector for almost eleven years, with experience supporting people with complex trauma. In the creative industry, she developed experience by serving as Music Victoria’s primary mental health clinician during the COVID-19 pandemic.
She also has a passion for music, having played the drums professionally in her twenties and currently balances mental health work with being a comedy writer, producer, hobby guitarist, and gig enthusiast.
Described in a press release as a “grounded, practical conversation” that will cover topics and experiences such as trauma being held in the body and understanding the physical toll of surviving abuse and harm, the discussion will also highlight how best to support others affected by those issues, reframing shame, and outlining support options and available networks for women and gender diverse people who have experienced such traumas.
The session is for women and gender-diverse people in the music industry and is free to attend digitally. Future sessions focused on inviting men into the discussion will follow.
