Miami Marketta Owner Unveils Plans For New Venue 'The Syrup Factory'

The Miami Marketta team is looking to open The Syrup Factory “in some capacity” by August.

The Gold Coast’s favourite night market and entertainment venue, Miami Marketta, is about to expand and welcome two new venues: a music venue and a wedding space.

Miami Marketta will soon be home to The Syrup Factory, a 1,600-plus-capacity venue, and La Maddalena, a European-style-inspired wedding events space.

The project is led by Miami Marketta owner Emma Milikins, who says the Syrup Factory in particular will fill a “significant” gap in live music offerings along the Gold Coast.

The Gold Coast Bulletin notes that The Syrup Factory will have a 1,600-plus-capacity on the mezzanine floor, plus VIP areas on the side of the stage.

Set to be located next door to Miami Marketta, the Syrup Factory project has been ongoing—so far, a seven-year commitment.

In a statement, Milikins explained that the Gold Coast has been left off artists’ tours because there isn't a “right-sized venue” there.

“The Syrup Factory changes that,” she said.

Discussing the development of the venue, Milikins added, “We have been in development since 2018, completing a development application in 2020.

“We were about to push the go button when the pandemic hit. We have been in a holding pattern for a few years now, and it wasn’t until 2023 [that] we felt secure enough to pick the project up again.”

The Miami Marketta team is looking to open both venues “in some capacity” by August.

Sharing the news story on her social media, Milikins wrote, “They say good things come to those that wait… Well, this wait is over.

“Demolition started this week on the site of our new venues The Syrup Factory a dedicated live music venue and La Maddalena for weddings and private events.

“The next 6 months are going to be wild as we try and turn this around by August.”

Miami Marketta first opened its doors in 2011. The Cargo Stage hosts free blues, jazz, alternative and roots independent artists, while on evenings from Wednesday to Saturday, the venue is home to street food, boutique wine, locally brewed beer, and specialty cocktails.
