Melbourne record store Record Paradise has proven just how strong the city’s community really is, holding a celebration of life for local radio presenter and music lover Jane Brownrigg this weekend.
Brownrigg presented the Music Matters program on 3CR for eleven years, appearing on alternate weeks of the show.
Brownrigg sadly passed away from cancer in May, but before she died, she wanted to have the CDs she’s collected throughout a lifetime of loving music donated to charities of her choice. So, this weekend (Saturday, 13 and Sunday, 14 July), Record Paradise in Brunswick will host the sale of the CDs, putting on a community weekend called Stay Tuned, Stay Radical in honour of Brownrigg’s life.
Record Paradise estimates that it has 2,000 CDs from Brownrigg’s collection—mostly local and Australian bands and some of her favourite international artists. In addition to the CDs, the record store has lined up Brownrigg’s “original artwork, music books and tees, and music ephemera.”
The donations will go to Brownrigg’s nominated beneficiaries: community radio stations RRR FM, PBS FM, and 3CR, as well as several environmental organisations.
Her family and friends have made a statement to The Music, sharing that when she was in the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre at the Austin Hospital, Brownrigg received essential support from 3CR and continued producing fortnightly episodes for the radio broadcaster.

Brownrigg’s family and friends said:
Jane Brownrigg was a champion of community radio, music and the arts. Her volunteering with community radio stations goes back decades - for 11 years, she presented the Music Matters program on 3CR on alternate weeks, which included an extensive gig guide. She loved it! Jane was so committed that at the 2021 3CR Radio Awards, she was awarded the gong for Remote Programming - Most Outlandish Covid Lockdown Studio Setup. With great support from 3CR staff, she continued producing her fortnightly episodes while at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre at the Austin Hospital during admissions for treatment. This weekend, we celebrate Jane!
Most CDs will be sold for just $5 this weekend – a steal and an opportunity to support an independent record store and community radio and honour a local music hero. All are welcome to attend the celebration at Record Paradise this weekend.
