The annual Art Of Music gala night will return for 2024, celebrating the grandiose convergence of colour and sound to raise funds for Noro Music Therapy.
As always, the event – scheduled for Saturday June 22 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales – will present the works of visual artists inspired by a particular musical artist or song. As it’s explained in a press release, “The artists take their inspiration from the melody, the lyrics, the album cover or even the singer. It’s entirely up to them as to how they interpret the music.”
All of the artworks will be sold off on the night, with an auction being held alongside a formal dinner service. All proceeds will be donated to Noro, assisting registered music therapists in their efforts to “use the power of music in live and interactive sessions to help people cope with the struggles of living with a wide range of needs”.
This year, artworks in the collection were submitted by artists Alan Jones, Alex Seton, Ben Quilty, Holly Greenwood, Joan Ross, Laura Jones, Leila Jeffreys, Todd Hunter and Vincent Namitjira.
In a formal statement, founder Jenny Morris said of this year’s Art Of Music gala: “I can’t believe we've been presenting the AOM event since 2006! I can’t believe it because in all that time I’ve never once been worried about being able to put together a high quality collection of world class Australian [and New Zealand] works and this year is no different.

“The generosity of the artists is huge and so are their talents... always the cream of the crop. It’s the reason the same calibre of musicians are drawn to performing on the night, the combination of music and visual art is hard to say no to. But why do these scions of the cultural world put their heart and soul into donating their talents? They do it for Noro. Noro provides music therapy to children and adults with many different types of special needs, and as we all know by now, it WORKS.
“I hope you’ll join me on what will be another unique, entertaining and satisfying night with stars of the art and music worlds (and we let a few well-known actors in too). Thank you to those who are regulars and thank you to first timers, you won’t regret it!”
Since its launch some 18 years ago, the Art Of Music gala has drawn in some A-class supporters. Among them are Cold Chisel icon Jimmy Barnes, who said in a statement of his own ahead of this year’s edition: “Art Of Music is not to be missed. Amazing art. Amazing music. Put them together and the result is truly magical.”
Also backing Art Of Music 2024 is cinema legend Hugo Weaving, who added: “One of the most inspiring and enjoyable nights of the year, Art Of Music combines iconic musicians in full swing, celebrated artists and their and their latest works, great food, fine wine and terrific company.”
