The Jade, the beloved Adelaide music venue that previously operated as The Jade Monkey, will shut its doors for the final time at the end of the year.

The devastating news was shared on the venue’s social media accounts on Wednesday (14 January), with venue owners reporting that their lease “will not be renewed beyond November 2026.”

Located on Flinders Street in Adelaide, the intimate venue relocated and relaunched as The Jade in December 2013. Initially in a historic building on Twin Street, The Jade Monkey was forced out as a new Hotel Ibis was built the previous year.

The move to the Flinders Street location wasn’t all that easy, either: news.com.au reported that The Jade operator Zac Coligan faced objections from the Bethlehem Lutheran Church located on the same street.

“Yes, it’s happening again. It is with heavy hearts that we announce that 2026 will be the final year The Jade will be operating from its Flinders St home,” The Jade’s team shared. “Despite the business’ success, we have been informed that our lease will not be renewed beyond November 2026.”

The venue’s post continued, “We feel such gratitude for the support we’ve received from our community over the last 23 years. It’s such a privilege to be entrusted to host your live music, arts & significant personal events. We feel like you’re all a part of our big Jade family.”

The Jade’s owners are asking punters to look at 2026 “as a last hurrah” and to make this year the venue’s greatest yet. “If you were deliberating about planning a show or event at our space, now would be the time to do it,” they quipped.

The post concluded, “We love what we do and dearly hope we can continue, in one form or another, to continue providing you all with a welcoming space to come together, perform & celebrate.

“Here’s to the future, to a great 2026 and beyond. Cheers! Zac, Naomi and the Jade crew.”

Acts including Bluebottle Kiss, Kosher Salami, Crocodylus, and many others have performed at the venue in recent years. To find out what’s coming soon, head to The Jade’s website.
