No gloss, no dross, just raw rock and roll, delivered at volume and speed. That’s the promise from Spitting Chips, the trio from Melbourne featuring two original members of Cosmic Psychos, when they return to Sydney to play Marrickville Bowling Club on July 11.
Spitting Chips are original Psychos Billy Walsh (drums) and Peter “Dirty” Jones (guitar) with bassist Sam Johnston. They’ve been constantly touring the East Coast and South Australia since last year and playing an extended Melbourne residency.
Spitting Chips’ brutal assault has won plaudits from all over for their set of songs from the Psychos’ early years (1985-‘89) intermingled with their own bare-boned originals.
Expect them to reprise the likes of Cosmic Psychos classics like “Can’t Come In”, “Decadence”, “Crazy Woman”, “Quarter to Three” and “Custom Credit” as well as a few cuts from their forthcoming EP “”An Encyclopedia Of Riverology”.
Keeping them honest will be an undercard of veteran riff monsters Jupiter 5 and The Sugar Beats, the effervescent and explosive two-girls-one-guy trio.
Jupiter 5, whose lineage dates back to The Conspirators, Thurston Howlers, Sheek the Shayk and some bunch of wrestlers, are toiling away on their second studio album.
The Sugar Beats, whose members have played with Nitrocris and The Strike-Outs, have just unleashed “Backroom”, their debut digital single that’s a neo-glam taster for their forthcoming long-player.
