NSC is turning 20 and we’re throwing one helluva party!To celebrate two decades, we’re rolling out 20 Gigs for 20 Years — a huge birthday series running through July and August, stacked with some of our all-time favourites!
We’re kicking off the festivities with Social Sanctuary, our beloved free Monday night gig series. It’s only right to start the party with the community that’s been with us week in, week out. For this special edition, Owelu Dreamhouse, Cong Josie and The Hell Racers + more are taking the stage! Get ready to boogie.Owelu Dreamhouse(Oh-WAY-lew)is a Naarm/Melbourne-based Afro-futuristic ensemble, crafting a cinematic psychedelic-soul sound. Friends, Nkechi Anele (Saskwatch, Ex Olympian) and Nic Ryan-Glenie (Saskwatch, Let You Hair Down, Vance Joy, The Meltdown), collaborate to deliver a sonic journey that celebrates the full spectrum of identity, drawing inspiration from their rich and diverse lives and music aesthetics. Blending psychedelic-soul and West African musical traditions, Owelu Dreamhouse delivers a vibrant and immersive experience. Their music features captivating horn lines soar over dynamic rhythms, addictive melodies, and grooving basslines, inspired by artists such as Felt Kuti, SAULT, and Little Simz.A band whose output is defined by a keen sense for change and continuum, EGGY are an avant-pop-rock band who keep their feet firmly planted in the DIY. Taking notes from John Cale, Stereolab, and The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, the EGGY sound and live show is an evolving shift of creative energy that bends to shape its environment. They’ve shared stages at home and abroad with Kurt Vile, Tropical Fuck Storm, The Beths, Shanon & The Clams and MJ Lenderman and their sophomore album ‘With Gusto’ was listed in Henry Rollins top 11 albums of the year. EGGY are set for a big year in 2025 as they release their cinematic third album, From Time To Time through Flightless Records on March 21st and tour to the UK, Europe and East Coast of Australia. EGGY are: Charlie Wolstenholme, Dom Moore, Lucy Packham, Sam Lyons, and Zoe Monk.Cong Josie has been burning the Naarm/'OZ' bitumen for a little while now. A true outsider artist with two critically acclaimed albums under his scorpion-in-resin belt, Cong! and Moto Zone via iconic label It Records. An antagonist, a community-over-cappo iconoclast, rock'n rolling punk that idolises Alan Vega, Roy Orbison, Shangri-Las and OZ-ploitation films. Expect synth-punk revvers and swoony couple dancing crooners. It's everything he loved when he was 11 years old and with his Hell Racers it is elevated to an alternate realm, that to him should be our reality.Plus one more special guest to be announced - stay tuned!
