#j4zzd0c (Dr Matthew W Roberts)

Matt is a Melbourne-based musician, psychiatrist, writer and teacher of psychotherapy. He has been improvising and composing for the piano and guitar since childhood, enjoying success as singer-songwriter Matt Roberts with Sound Vault Records while a junior doctor, and later playing keyboards with Hamish Cowan (Cordrazine). His song cycles Grand Tour and Rainbird are released on SoundCloud as Mount Disappointment Light Opera Company.

In recent years he has found a cure for decades of perfectionism-driven performance anxiety, prescribed by the live solo piano improvised work of Keith Jarrett. Since 2024 Matt has been performing piano online, as #j4zzd0c, collecting a YouTube series of improvised pieces free of the fear of mistakes. Now every “error” is just a different coloured brushstroke waiting to be developed into the picture.
