What?

The Night Cat welcome’s Aotearoa/New Zealand music royalty and icon:

- Nathan Haines - Live Jazz House Experience! 31st October

a global musical trailblazer for over 4 decades, pushing boundaries, and remaining firmly at the forefront off electronic jazz beats! First time shows in Australia.

“Powering his way through profound jazz, dance and soul!” (Rolling Stone)

Acclaimed saxophonist and producer fusing jazz and dance music traditions, Nathan Haines (equipped with a dazzling, allstar 7pc band, vocalists and special guests including UK hi-tech-soul don Steve Spacek) bringing a lively, uplifting, spring-time evening of dancefloor House, Boogie and organic South Pacific Balearic Beats, all with that distinctive, warm, soulful, kiwi flavour (and some reggae of course!), taking you on a journey through the decades of his prolific, ground breaking work.

A world leader in a style that he's elegantly trail-blazed and pioneered, nowadays coined as ‘Jazz House’, he’s literally the O.G. of the sound (before it was coined as a term). After initially being spotted by UK BBC radio don Gilles Peterson back in 1993, he's mixed it with some of the best, from his time in London/UK and Europe in the the late 90s/early 2000s (Damon Albarn Blur/Gorillaz, Jamiroquai - on their 2005 dynamite hit, Ron Trent’s live band etc), releasing 11 albums and ground breaking music with the likes of Marlena Shaw, Kaidi Tatham, Marc Mac/4Hero, Vanessa Freeman, T.Y., and fellow Kiwi legends Tama Waipara and fellow trailblazer Mark de Clive-Lowe, all alongside long time co-producer - UK House don Phil Asher (RIP). All whilst fully and completely mastering his instruments (Sax and flute) as one of the true all-time legends of kiwi music on a global stage. Nathan’s music has been remixed from the likes of Kenny Dope (Masters at Work), Atjazz, and Ashley Beedle (X-press2) to the support of notable DJs and underground house music enthusiasts worldwide.

During the recent making of his 11th album - Nathan was hit by a freak throat cancer scare, that threatened to stop his playing altogether - treatment damaged his vocal chords, but incredibly his breathing technique remained in tact, enabling him to continue making music with the wind instruments he’s expertly mastered - Saxophones and Flutes (+ finish the album!). With this new album ‘Notes’ in tow, he’s joined by an array of special guests and supports, and as you can imagine, even more fired-up after kicking that nasty stuff!
