Yours Truly Explain Their Favourite Songs From Each Release

Yours Truly’s brand new album, TOXIC, drops today. And, to celebrate its release, lead singer Mikaila Delgado and guitarist Teddie Winder-Haron are taking The Music through their top tracks from each of the Aussie pop-punk band’s releases - including their new favourites from TOXIC.

TEDDIE WINDER-HARON’S FAVOURITE YOURS TRULY SONGS

From Too Late for Apologies, I think Strangers will always be the favourite for me. It was the first song that we really wrote together, and it was the first single that we ever had. And because of that, it will always be special to me. 

My favourite song from Afterglow is High Hopes, that’s the OG number one song from Yours Truly. I still have vivid memories of coming up with those first little bits of guitar at the start in the garage of my house, just sitting down and freezing to death in the winter at the time. High Hopes will definitely always be a special one too.

For Self Care, it used to be either Ghost or Heartsleeve, but I think now it’s Siamese Souls, because I have so much fun playing that live, the fast verses and the slow, vibe-y chorus. And I get to two step in the second verse, which is heaps of fun!

From is this what i look like?, it has to be Walk Over My Grave, it’s the best song on that EP in my opinion. And again, it’s one of my favourites to play live. And I also just love the energy that it brings in as well. It showcased this kind of change for us when we dropped it after having Self Care come out. Having a song like that follow Self Care, it was pretty cool to be like, “Hey! We’re still mean and nasty! We’ve got some cool riffs!”

And then off TOXIC, Let Go is my favourite, and that’s closely followed by Back 2 U. But Let Go is the number one for me. It’s got that big chorus, a super cool guitar riff. And it’s super simple, nothing crazy, it eases you into the chorus and then you get hit in the chest with this absolute ripper. And I love it!

MIKAILA DELGADO’S FAVOURITE YOURS TRULY SONGS

My favourites are kind of exactly the same as Teddie’s, but a little bit different. My favourite from Too Late for Apologies would be When the Sky Falls Down and for Afterglow, it'd absolutely be High Hopes, just because it's the song that changed everything for us. So I definitely have to give it to that one.

From Self Care, my favourite would be Siamese Souls as well, the same as Teddie. And the same for is this is what I look like?, it has to be Walking Over My Grave, that’s definitely a highlight for us both.

And from TOXIC, I’m going to go with a mix of Let Go and All That I’m Not. Let Go is just so fun, and something about that song just makes me feel a certain way. I’m just really proud of that song. And for All That I’m Not, it just feels very “Yours Truly”. And I also feel proud that something so terrible, or something terrible and personal to me, it might not be terrible to the whole world. But the experience that sparked that song came out of a lot of heartbreak, me finding out that the person I was with had met someone else while we were together. And while it was a terrible experience, I got to turn it into something worthwhile. And that song will always be special to me for that very reason.
