Now a staple on the Tasmanian festival calendar, the “mesmerising, magical utopia” that is Huon Valley Mid-Winter Fest will return to the region this July.
The team behind the beloved event recall some highlights from past runs.
A real highlight for me was when the Burning Man lit on the first attempt and also hanging at the Main Stage looking back into the sea of people heaving – nearly moved me to tears every time.

Seeing people walk through the gate dressed in tatters or fancy dress is pretty special too. And not to mention greeting the full team early on Friday morning in the dark to finish the set up.
Seeing the queue for the face painters being full of adults all dressed up in weird and wonderful costumes, waiting to get their faces done, and no children at all. Awesome.
The first Saturday night at 5pm the buses started arriving and they were packed and the highway was crazy with cars parked both sides. A real highlight was seeing the Crooked Fiddle band playing to a packed house!
The highlight is usually at the end when we are all together, completely buggered but know we’ve thrown a monster party that has made a lot of people happy!
From a music perspective it’s probably getting up on stage on the Saturday night with the Cooked Fiddle Band, looking back into the tent and the whole tent going off with big smiles on everyone’s faces! I smiled to myself and thought we’ve certainly done what we set out to achieve and woken up the Huon Valley this winter!!
